Grindal House, St Bees

Grindal House in St Bees, Cumbria, is a distinguished Grade 2 listed building that has undergone a remarkable transformation.

Originally serving as a four-story boarding house for St Bees School, this historic property has been meticulously renovated into a luxurious 20-bedroom aparthotel, with each room featuring an en-suite bathroom.

The conversion process required a deep understanding of the building’s heritage and architectural significance.

We worked closely with both the architect and the client to ensure that the renovation honored the building’s historical character while introducing modern comforts and amenities.

Every detail was carefully considered to maintain the original charm of Grindal House, from preserving its distinctive architectural features to selecting materials that complement its period style.

Meeting the stringent building and fire regulations was a critical aspect of the project. Given the building’s age and listed status, we faced several challenges that required innovative solutions.

Our team collaborated closely with the architect to address these challenges, ensuring that the property not only met all safety requirements but also achieved the high standard of finish desired by the client.

The result is a stunning aparthotel that seamlessly blends the historical elegance of Grindal House with contemporary luxury.

The sympathetic conversion has breathed new life into this historic property, making it a standout destination for visitors to St Bees.
