Director & Founder
William King Construction was founded in 2008 by William and Lisa King. Having worked across the UK for a wide range of developers and main contractors, William was driven by the belief that construction could be delivered with greater care, higher standards, and a more considered approach to quality.
From the outset, Lisa stepped away from a successful career in retail management to establish the operational and financial backbone of the business. That early focus on structure, accountability and systems created a foundation that continues to underpin every project today.
What began in residential construction has grown into a business operating across nuclear contracting, civil engineering, commercial works and heritage restoration across Cumbria and beyond.

Business Development & Technical Director
William leads business development and provides technical oversight across the full range of the company’s activities. With deep knowledge of the construction and nuclear sectors, he identifies strategic opportunities and ensures every project decision is grounded in both commercial and technical reality.
His oversight extends across operations, marketing and client relationships, ensuring that the company’s values and standards are consistent at every level of the business.
Finance, Operations & People Director
Lisa manages all aspects of the company’s finances, from budgeting and forecasting to payroll and regulatory compliance. Her background in retail management brought rigorous operational discipline to the business from the outset, establishing the systems and processes that allow William King Construction to scale without compromising standards.
Lisa also leads recruitment, ensuring every new team member is the right fit for the company’s culture and commitment to quality.

Shawn Ackerlay
Shawn oversees our commercial strategy and is the principal liaison across nuclear and non nuclear frameworks. With extensive on-site experience across multiple contracts at Sellafield and other nuclear facilities across the UK, Shawn brings a level of sector knowledge that is difficult to replicate. His understanding of contract legalities, programme requirements and site-specific compliance means he can answer the questions that matter before they become problems.
Jamie Hetherington
Jamie sits at the operational heart of the business, working closely with William and Shawn across both commercial and project functions. He plays a critical coordination role, ensuring information flows between teams and that projects are delivered to programme. Jamie also acts as Project Manager for the company’s domestic projects, bringing the same level of commercial rigour to residential work as to larger-scale contracts.
Richard Huby
Richard leads health, safety and environmental practice across William King Construction, ensuring the highest standards of compliance and continuous improvement are maintained on every site we operate. With a thorough understanding of the regulatory requirements that govern our work, including within safety-critical nuclear environments, Richard plays a central role in protecting our people, our clients and our projects at every stage of delivery.
Adrian Carlton
Adrian leads operational delivery across our live nuclear projects, bringing hands-on project management experience to some of the most technically demanding and compliance-driven environments we work in. With a focus on programme, quality and safety, Adrian ensures our nuclear contracts are delivered to the highest standards, on time and to the satisfaction of our clients and principal contractors.
